Obviously not the first dry shampoo on the market, Redken’s Powder Refresh dry shampoo is definitely one of the best. After speaking with someone from Redken, they informed me that they did the sneaky but strategic thing in postponing the release of their dry shampoo by a few months, so that they could analyse other brands dry shampoos and make theirs even better.
This move has definitely payed off. Redken’s Powder Refresh, unlike others of its kind, is transparent. Most products are categorised into ‘light hair’ and ‘dark hair’. I find this quite illogical and silly, as we all know there are more hair colours out there than you can possibly imagine and they definitely cannot be classified into just two categories.
You’re also left in a great dilemma if, like me, you have that lovely mousey, ash-colour, that leaves you indecipherably stuck between blonde and brunette. *Sigh*.
Used sparingly, Powder Refresh will not cake, clump, or leave a sticky residue behind. It also rinses out incredibly easily. Simply spritz on, brush through, and you’re good to go. I also find its delightful, fruity-citrus scent, a pleasant wake-me-up on those dreary mornings when you’re struggling to keep your eyes open.
Dry shampoo is a fantastic invention, and the perfect option for those of you whose hair is so oily you feel the need to wash it more than once per day. Although you may feel temporary relief, constant washing is not the healthiest option, as it will dry out your hair and scalp; not to mention you end up spending a ridiculous amount of your money on shampoo.
Also, stripping your skin of oil will simply make your scalp produce more to protect itself — ie, over-compensating. Just one of the many annoying protective mechanisms our bodies are capable of. Instead of scrubbing your scalp silly, just use some dry shampoo. No oily slick, and no irritated scalp. Simple!
Another new product by Redken is Powder Grip, which was released alongside Powder Refresh dry shampoo. This one is a volumizing styling powder. Also not the first of its kind on the market, and also delayed so as to beat its competition {which it also does}.
It comes in a darling little bottle, but don’t be fooled, the powder is very fine so there is actually quite a lot of it in the teensy bottle — and you only need a tiny amount anyway. If you love that messy, volumised, just-got-out of-bed look, this is a winner.
Just sprinkle straight onto your scalp {or onto your fingertips and apply} give it a little rub with your fingers to plump up, and voila! Super-doopa easy. With this one, the same goes for you oily haired ladies: this is perfect for you. Since it’s a powder and not a liquid, it will give your hair a matte finish, instead of adding extra sliminess, and give you the same great hold and volume as hairspray.
The perfect oil-reducing alternative to other volumizers and stylers. Great work Redken {as always}. You remain my absolute fave hair care range. Don’t forget Redken is used in most hair salons so it is professional quality and affordable too!
