LOOKBOOK: WINTER BEAUTY

There is only one word for my skin — pale. There have been Casper jokes on multiple occasions. I even get comments from complete strangers on the street about how pale I am. And quite honestly, I don’t mind. On the contrary, I take it as a compliment. I adore being pale. There is something about it — so elegant, vintage, and somehow sophisticated. I will always prefer pale over tan. Anyone can be brown, whether it be natural, rubbed in, or sprayed on. Pale is unique. But not this Winter!

That’s right ladies, time to rid yourselves of your cans of tan as this winter’s trend is all about pale, yep, all about nude {and I couldn’t be happier!}. Maybe it’s the Twilight Saga craze that’s done it, maybe people are finally getting sick of being orange.

Or perhaps everyone is finally realising that yes, your skin will get paler inwinter no matter what you do, and it is simply easier to accentuate this rather than fight it. For some, pale is an ugly word. So for this trend, think more along the lines of snow bunny, illuminated skin, nude, or pale pink frosted lips and glowing perfect complexions. Now, doesn’t that sound much more lovely? I guess a rose of any other name would not smell as sweet after all…

This look is all about natural glowing beauty, and is so easy to achieve. For gorgeous glowing skin, Lumi Magique Foundation is L’Oreal’s latest foundation innovation, and it’s perfect for that healthy, dewy glow; and for brightening up any Winter dullness.

No tacky glitters, just a radiant glow that reflects light without oil or shine. Utterly bright, luminescent skin. It even boasts an SPF18; remember you can still get burnt on a cloudy Winters day ladies. Give it an extra kick of luminosity by applying Lumi Magique Primer underneath, which acts more like a liquid highlighter.

For you girls that prefer a matte complexion over a dewy one, not to worry, as you can still achieve a lovely nude, Winter glow with a heavy matte foundation. A liquid highlighter {I absolutely love Revlon Age Defying Spa Face Illuminator} can be applied underneath full coverage foundation {I also love Revlon Colourstay; works incredibly with Revlon Illuminator} and will still give you a subtle glow from underneath. Apply your regular powder, and finish with a light dust of Illuminator over the top, such as Smashbox Artificial Light Luminizing Powder.

For luscious Winter lips, we want creamy, creamy, extra creamy! Napolean Perdis has a Winter range called Nude Bar, containing delightfully soft and creamy pale lip colours. There are 3 shades of nudes; the palest of these can be worn on its own or pastilze other lip colours by being worn underneath.

You can smack on the pale and apply a pink or light brown gloss or lipstick; the nude will make the top layer lighter, creamier and a lovely pastel colour. The same goes for putting lipsticks over the top. It may feel strange to layer lipsticks, but the result is soft and absolutely beautiful.

Now, don’t be tempted to use your foundation on your lips. It’s not formulated to go over the delicate skin on your lips; the moisture from your mouth will shift the foundation, leaving it patchy, and the foundation will dry and chap your lips.

There are no strict guidelines for eye colours this winter, but in saying that, we don’t want to stray too far from that nude, natural look. It’s best to go for a lovely soft look during the day — champagnes, beiges and very light, shimmery browns.

For this, Too Faced Natural At Night Shadow Palette is your perfect winter companion. If you’re feeling bold for night, add a thin line of black shadow to your bottom lashes and smudge, then flick up at the corner of the eyes, and blend into the crease of your eye lid over the top of your day-time shadow. For that sweet, no-shadow, doe-eyed 50′s look, just slick on some liquid liner and you’re ready to go!

Remember girlies, the key is to be glowing, not brown, so avoid bronzer at all costs!! If you must use a blush of some sort, definitely stick to a very light dusting of soft peach colour for a natural flush.

      Hi Catherine,
You need to make sure you’re using quality skincare products designed for oily and sensitive skin and never going to bed with makeup on! Also consider making a trip to a dermatologist, a skin expert who will be able to analyse your skin and tell you what you need (as I cannot see your skin so am unable to advise you further) If your acne is very severe it can be treated with prescription medication, but only in severe cases!
